Welcome to the Bathurst St Phase III reconstruction Page

Phase III was supposed to be done last year and it was not part of the rebuilding of the CP Dupont railway bridge program.

Some where in the process the light bulb came on for the city to start co-orientating with other departments to try to all the work at one time than spread it over time to stop the inconveniences to everyone as well reduce cost. Long over due.

The City was good at tearing up rebuilt roads and sidewalks to do what was to be done and then do a sloppy job at patching this work.

There was a lot of flack by the car community as TTC had to store the rails for the bridge area south of Bloor St as this was the main storage area for all the new tracks that were to be use for rebuilding Bathurst St from north of the Bathurst Station Loop to St Clair Ave.

The rail could not be relocated easy as they where 100 meters long that were welded on site.

The work got underway February 7, 2009 where the southbound lanes were closed to traffic at Davenport Rd.

TTC is running their route #7C buses north on Bathurst St with the southbound bus traveling west on Davenport to Christie St and then south to Dupont Rd. Then travel east to Bathurst St and then to the Bathurst Station at Bloor St. Once the work is done for the southbound lanes later this year, they thing will be reverse.

It no simple case of dropping the road elevation as new sewer and waterline will have to be lower and deal with the centre columns supports foe the bridge. The waterlines are being installed inside of the sewer pipe than this can be seen in various photo´s I have shoot so far.

The following pages are broken down as either 2008 or 2009 years that will house the various photo´s and video I have shot to date. The 2008 page will contain what the bridge and road look like before construction with the last 2009 pages showing what it looks like after construction.

While this construction is tacking place, TTC will not be able to access the Hillcrest Maintains yard for Streetcar work if any major problem happen to them. They will be store at one of the 2 carhouse´s until the tracks are back in service. TTC can run cars to the yard, but will have to sit there until the southbound lane is put back in service this summer.

Construction got underway in April with construction to be completed in 2010.

In July, a new construction date was given as August 2009 as to when traffic will return to both direction. Sidewalk work will not be completed until sometime in 2010 with work taking place on the east side first.

TTC has been backing the streetcars up the southbound lanes at night and shipping them back to the system after work is finish on them.
