Welcome to the TTC Loop Home Page

You can find the links to the existing loops under loops in the menu bar above that are still in operation as of October 2010 that have more information on them there.

In 2009, the tracks for Townsely Loop were removed during the building of the St Clair ROW and is only a bus loop now.

In the coming year, I will be adding photos of the loops that I have taken these past 5 years of them.

At present time, I have only have provided some information on the Long Branch Loop.

Some loops are not real loops, but how they loop around the system.

From 1861 to 1921, there were no loops as the cars were either double ended that only required a crossover track at each end of the line if there were double track, or they go back the same way they came and only change the power pole from one end to the other. In some places there were WYE track that would change the direction of the car and these were used mostly for single end cars. Loop required a lot of space to turn around and due to the cost as well upgrading the equipment over the years, the radius never change to match the new equipment like it should have, but there was no more land to do so. By not having a larger radius like the new cars should have has lead to complaints from residents who live by these loop caused by the squealing of the wheels as they turn.

One hope that when the new streetcars start showing up in 2011 that they have steerable wheels to cut down on the squealing, otherwise the demaned to removed the streetcars off the road is only going to increase..

You can find information on the loops that don't exist anymore at Transit Toronto,
