This page will provide various information surround the subway stations for TTC.
Each of the stations below will have their own page with various Photo's pertaining to them as well other information as time goes along.
The first subway Line came into existent March 30, 1954 with the opening of the Yonge line running from Union Station on Front St to Eglinton Station at the s-w corner Eglinton Ave and Yonge St.
The Bloor - Danforth line open on February 26, 1966 between Keele station in the west and Woodbine station in the east. It also marked the first time that every 2nd train travel to the city core by the Y and the University line. TTC abandon this practices after 6 months due to too many operation problems and never used the Y again until 2007.
Upon the opening of the Bloor-Danforth line, TTC maintain 2 yards that were located at 400 Greenwood Ave in the east and the Vincent Yard that was next to Dundas West Station in the west. The new Dundas West Station replace the existing Vincent streetcar loop that service the Dundas line as well the Roncesvalle/King St line.
The Vincent Yard is a 4 track arrangement that can hold 8 6 car train. Haft the yard is tunnel while the other haft is wide open. With the retirement of the Gloucester cars, TTC saw no need to maintain trains at this yard and close the yard in 1978. Today it is a training site as well storage site for various equipment been used to maintain the line.
TTC took delivery of new subway cars at the Greenwood Yard since it was next to CN Kingston Rail corridor. There was a spur off the main line that allow the off loading of the new cars onto TTC track system. That spur has been removed since TTC does not received any new subway cars at the Greenwood Yard these days as they are now delivery to the Wilson Yard.
This is where TTC maintain the B-D equipment as well store them. You can see the yard from a number of positions, since it on a lower level. You can find various track maintance store in the yard or in the shop for maintance upond your visited. TTC has held an open house the last 2 years in May during the Open House weekend for various building throughout the City. You get a chance to see what takes place behind those close doors.
The next phase was the building of Bloor line from Keele to Islington and the Danforth Line from Woodbine to Warden on May 11, 1968.
Up to this time, TTC still ran Streetcars service to the Keele Loop to Jane Loop from the Lansdowne Carhouse for the Bloor line. The stair leading off the Keele Subway Platform to the old loop still exist today behind close doors.
Once the new section open, TTC removed the streetcar service off Bloor Street.
The Bloor line was extended from Islington to Kipling on November 22, 1980 as well the Danforth line extended from Warden to Kennedy.
The Bloor-Danforth lines get the hand down equipment from the Yonge line these days and should be 100% T1 equipment by 2015 after the Yonge line receives the new TR cars. The H4, H5 and H6 will be phased out as the T1 are phased into the B-D line starting in 2011 with the delivery of the TR to the Wilson Yard.
